Get Inspired to Role-Play with Your Kids with These Four Quotes

If you could use a single word to describe your child, what would it be? If you said “imaginative”, you are not alone--this natural quality can be a child’s greatest asset during her early years, especially if she can exercise it through play.

Imagination-centered play has some serious benefits for early development. Pretend play has been found to boost social-emotional development and critical-thinking skills, and role playing specifically (like wearing a doctor’s coat and checking their stuffed animals for a fever) supports language and the development of coping mechanisms. Your kids don’t even need toys or electronic games to reap these developmental benefits--just an open space, their active imaginations, and things you probably already have at home, as in this activity.

Whether young or old, get inspired to encourage play that builds your kids’ imaginations with some of our favorite quotes, below.

"Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.” -Dr. Seuss

“Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” -Carl Sagan

“Everything you can imagine is real.” Pablo Picasso

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” -Walt Disney
